But Live It Slant

2011

But Live It Slant is a series of micro-docs about connecting with the life cycle in the midst of urban life in London, U.K. I made them with my friend Charlotte Heikendorf while we were studying together at Goldsmiths.

We named the series ‘But Live It Slant’ after the Emily Dickinson poem  ‘Tell All The Truth But Tell It Slant’

Tell all the truth but tell it slant —
Success in Circuit lies
Too bright for our infirm Delight
The Truth's superb surprise
As Lightning to the Children eased
With explanation kind
The Truth must dazzle gradually
Or every man be blind —

We wanted to focus on people living in a major city who were doing it their own way.
They were ‘living slant’ by doing things like keeping bees in the heart of the concrete jungle.
